Fewer belongings mean less to move and smaller disposal fees. Only items confirmed on official pages are included. Disposing of large furniture and appliances is covered in kzk.kr’s separate furniture and appliance guide.

Decluttering Before a Move: Sell, Give Away, Donate, and Spend Less on Disposal: key points summary

Step 1: Give items away on Daangn (당근 나눔)

According to Daangn’s help center, a giveaway post works like a regular sale post: enter a price of 0 and it is labeled as a giveaway automatically. Posting happens after login.

Daangn help center search results for 'giveaway' (public page, captured 2026-10-26)

  • After entering 0, choosing [나눔 신청 받기] (accept requests) lets you collect requests instead of chats and pick a neighbor.
  • Giveaways are not first-come, first-served; you may state conditions.
  • Items received as giveaways must not be resold (reports and sanctions may apply).
  • Daangn warns about giveaway posts that push you to KakaoTalk or open chat rooms, or ask for personal info or verification codes.

Step 2: Donate to Beautiful Store (아름다운가게)

Based on Beautiful Store’s official pages:

  • Three ways: drop off at a store (under 3 boxes), home pickup (3+ units, each about a post office No. 5 box or a 50 L waste bag; apply online or call 1577-1113), or parcel donation (register first; you pay shipping).
  • Pickup: weekdays 9:00–15:00; the day depends on your address. About 15 kg per box. If you’re out, mark “아름다운가게 기부물품” and leave it at the door.
  • Parcel: one online registration per box. Convenience-store shipping only at GS25, CU, or emart24 with a Postbox. Parcels sent without registration are treated as anonymous, with no donation receipt.
  • Accepted examples: clean clothes, bags and shoes, dishes and pots, small furniture or bikes one adult can carry, small appliances under 7 years old, laptops/tablets with storage wiped, general books.
  • Not accepted examples: large furniture/appliances, items needing installation (air conditioners, washers, fridges, water purifiers), items needing repair, appliances over 7 years old, used underwear and socks, exam/study books and textbooks, car seats and strollers, electric blankets.
  • Donation receipt: apply via the KakaoTalk notice you get after donating. Beautiful Store issues electronic receipts through Hometax, reflected automatically in the year-end tax settlement service (for receipts issued from Jan 1, 2026). Value is set by Beautiful Store’s own standard; unsellable items aren’t counted.
  • Donated items are hard to get back once they reach the center.

Step 3: Spend less on what’s left

  • Household waste includes standard-bag waste, food waste, paper, metal cans, and old furniture. Fees are collected by selling designated bags or stickers under each local ordinance, so check your city/district for bag prices and collection rules.
  • Bulky items that don’t fit a bag need a local disposal report and fee, which vary by district. See kzk.kr’s furniture and appliance guide for details and free appliance pickup.
  • Cheapest order: sell/give away → donate → check free pickup → report only what remains.

Related: Move-in report (전입신고)

  • File within 14 days of moving, at the new area’s community center or online via Government24 (after login).
  • Missing the deadline without good reason can bring a fine of up to 50,000 won.
  • Tenants are advised to file on moving day if possible and get a fixed date (확정일자) on the lease to protect the deposit.
  • Cars with nationwide plates need no separate registration change after the move-in report; regional plates do.

Common mistakes

  • Moving a giveaway to outside messengers and getting scammed
  • Shipping to Beautiful Store without registering, so no receipt
  • Trying to donate installed or large appliances
  • Missing the 14-day move-in report deadline
