Senior discounts in Korea cover transport and public facilities for people aged 65 or older. This guide covers the subway, KTX and SRT senior discounts, and palaces and museums. The phone discount for basic pension recipients is in the basic pension guide, and disability discounts have their own guide.

Who this suits
- Anyone who has turned 65 or soon will
- Families who want to cut the cost of outings with older parents

1. Is the subway free at 65+?
- Urban rail (subway) and Seoul-area metro fares are free.
- Bring ID that shows your age, such as a resident registration card (the mobile version counts).
2. Do KTX and SRT senior discounts apply on weekends?
- KTX and Saemaeul: 30% off, weekdays only. Korail excludes Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, while the Enforcement Decree table excludes only Saturdays and public holidays, and only for Saemaeul, so check with each agency.
- Mugunghwa (Nuriro): 30% off
- Commuter trains: 50% off
- SRT: 30% off on weekdays (Mon to Fri), not weekends or public holidays (including substitute holidays)
- The discount covers the fare only. Choose the senior discount when buying and show ID on board.

3. What about palaces and museums?
- Palaces, royal tombs, and national or public museums, parks and art galleries: free
- National and public Korean traditional music centers: at least 50% off
- Performance halls run by the state or local governments: 50% off their own productions
- Show ID at the ticket office.
4. How do you book a KTX senior fare?
- Check the travel day is a weekday (the 30% on KTX, Saemaul and SRT is weekdays only).
- Choose the senior discount when buying.
- Bring ID (mobile resident card included) when boarding.

Example (illustrative numbers): a 50,000 won weekday KTX fare becomes 35,000 won at 30% off. The discount applies to the fare only.
Common mistakes
- Expecting the 30% KTX discount on weekends
- Arriving without ID
- Assuming the performance hall discount covers every show
Checklist
